PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale PS3 Review

There is a lot on offer from PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale, with many great memories of classic PlayStation gaming characters to sink your teeth into, while making many great moments of its own through its unique take on level design and how they can combine different gaming worlds into each stage to make a truly unique and memorable experience. Add to all of this the fact that there is a rock solid single player experience, fitted out with character stories, challenges and a fine selection of unlockables that include extra costumes.

Its a shame that this game hasn’t gotten off to better commercial success and while the developers have committed to the DLC release that is due out at some point this month there isn’t much hope now of future DLC releases that would have seen extra characters, level designs, story modes and unlockables being released to the game. What they have created here is a fun package but there is definitely plenty of room for expansion and there are countless classic PlayStation universe characters that I would have loved to have seen added to the title over the next year or two.

Either way, what is on offer at the moment is a great bundle, there are many fantastic characters to choose from and each one of them is as fun as the last. I wasn’t expecting to find a game as well polished as this and its one of the reasons I instantly fell in love with the game as a whole. Combat can feel a little “floaty” as characters spend a lot of their time leaping around the map with someone whimsical physics, but it just keep the whole experience accessible and offers up a very arcade game like feel to the fights. Sure its not going to offer you the rigorous dynamics that you will find in fighting games like Soul Calibur but it was never intended to.

What we have here then is a party game and while it can be a lot of fun to play on your own, unlocking extra items and progressing through the game its not really what this title is about. I suggest you get a few friends around, a few extra controllers, huddle around the TV and watch Kratos, Big Daddy, Fat Princess and Hitatchi knock each other silly. If your a fan of multi player gaming then this is simply a must have game for your collection.

Now I will point out that yes you can play agains’t the computer and that may be the point of it to progress the game, but I really don’t care, multiplayer is what really matter here so get your friends round
