PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale PS3 Review

When it comes to graphics performance Battle Royale doesn’t disappoint and the main focus here is definitely nostalgia for game old and new. Here you will find accurately realised models of almost all your favourite PlayStation game characters right down to the finest details, all in glorious HD. Kratos, Nariko, Sly Cooper, Parrapa The Rappa, all of them look, act and move just as you remember them from the classic PlayStation 1 days, or in some cases more recent games like Uncharteds Nathan Drake.

Combine this with the set pieces for each battle that have been realised so well you would think your actually battling on the Hades level of God of War 3, the fight scene on the back of a plane from Uncharted or the mystical world of Medieval (hope I’m not the only one who remembers that game).

Thinks get a little crazier from here however, not only can you have four players on screen, lets say Nathan Drake, Big Daddy, Nariko and Sly Cooper. All of whom are battling it out on the Hades level of god of war, to the god of war music, everything is fine. Yet the game has the ability to parse in other game worlds and over time I found that the hellish back ground faded away and turned into the world of Loco Roco, over time so did the music and in  came the crazy tunes of Loco Roco, by the end of it, Hades him self was no more and it was like being stuck in a Japanese cartoon, this is of course simply brilliant level design. Its a trend that continues too as the Uncharted flying level takes place over the lands of BioShock Infinity and many more crazy yet stunning to look at combinations.

As far as nostalgia goes, all the sound effect, voices and catch phrases you would have come to expect from your favourite charectors and gaming worlds have been perfectly presevered and it all just adds to the fun perfectly.

As a child still in my 30's (but not for long), I spend my day combining my love of music and movies with a life-long passion for gaming, from arcade classics and retro consoles to the latest high-end PC and console games. So it's no wonder I write about tech and test the latest hardware while I enjoy my hobbies!
