The new Professor Layton game is due to be released later this month. You may have already known that and probably expect it to be released for the 3DS. While this is true, amazingly it is also being released on Smartphones for IOS and Android. Time to get your puzzle solving hat on!

Professor Layton on Smartphones!

Since the release of Professor Layton and the Mysterious Village 10 years ago, the puzzle solving game has been one of the most popular titles on the DS and then the 3DS. It has been 4 years since the last Professor Layton and the release is due on the 20th of July. Less than 2 weeks away!

What might surprise you, however, is that the title is going to be available play not just on the 3DS, but also Android and Apple reports GameSpot.

Surprising, yet it actually makes sense

Given the success that Nintendo has received in their recent Smartphone game licenses, such as Pokemon Go and Super Mario Run, while on the surface this is surprising, it’s actually very logical. Smartphones are clearly designed to operate with a touch screen utilization. As such, ‘point and click’ games are, if anything, more suited to them.

The inclusion of the title on Smartphones opens up the puzzle solving world of Professor Layton to a much wider audience. It may even convince the developer, Level 5, to release or port their back catalog.

While on the subject of ports, you need not worry. The Smartphone version has been designed from the ground up. It’s not (apparently) a lazy conversion.

In regards to the new game, in this adventure, you take the role of the Professor’s daughter (no, I didn’t know he had one either) who decides to open up her own detective agency. There is a somewhat clichéd plot of someone following in their father’s footsteps. Professor Layton has gone missing and she has to find him. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade?…

In fairness, the games are generally nearly always good. With a reported release price of £18, this could provide a lot of entertaining and maybe a bit of brain exercise.
