QPAD MK40, QH-25 & DX-30 Review – Gaming for Under £120

Performance

The keyboard looks fantastic, it really does. It doesn’t have the full RGB prowess of some big-budget rivals, but it doesn’t need to. When I get RGB hardware, I set it to red or purple, and leave it there. If you want it to puke rainbows, it’s not the keyboard for you.

The three colour lighting is more than enough for me though. It’s just enough to give it some life in a bright room. Of course, it looks even better on an evening and makes it very easy to see the keys.

The lighting on the switches offers up three colours; red, blue and green. Technically that is RBG, or really, it’s R, G, and B.

While not a true mechanical switch, they could certainly fool me. It’s a plunger switch, but it looks like a mechanical, it feels mechanical. Plus, it even has a bloody click like a mechanical switch. They’re quite light too, making them suitable for light and fast typing. Because it is a membrane though, it feels like a mech switch with O-ring mods. It also doesn’t have quite as fast a return rate as a mechanical. So, without any surprise, you could say it performs somewhere between a membrane and a mechanical… bet you all saw that one coming.

At least it’ll support standard Cherry fitting key caps though, that’s a nice addition.

Beyond that, it’s pretty much what you see really. It types nice, it looks great, but it’s not really packed with features beyond that. Plug, play, and enjoy!

RGB

Unlike the keyboard, the mouse has full RGB and plenty of it. There’s full RGB all the way around the bottom edge of it, which looks amazing. Plus, you get more light in the logo, the scroll wheel, and from the side trim too. If you’re feeling short on lighting in the keyboard, this makes up for it.

The mouse has a great setup to it too, with a seven-button configuration that’s more than enough for any typical gaming setup. It does have a good range of DPI settings too, and it’ll max out at 3000 DPI. That’s not much speed for a triple 4K monitor setup. However, it’s plenty for playing PUBG or League of Legends on a single 1080p, 1440p or even 4K display.

The switches feel decent too, and honestly, it’s very light, nimble, and tracks much better than expected given its the cheapest device in this three-piece setup.

Another cheeky look at the edge LED lighting. Ooooh it does look good, doesn’t it!

The Headset

When it was taken out of the box and the lights were off, I have to admit, I wasn’t exactly in love with this. Sure, I maintain that it wasn’t ugly, but it didn’t exactly light my fire either. However, once it was powered up and those lovely fade effect RGB lighting came on, it took on a new life, it really does look pretty fantastic. RGB on a headset, what a stupid idea, right? Well, it’s not always on your head, and sitting on your headset stand, it can look as pretty and shiny as you like.

It’s not the most refined sounding headset in the world, audiophiles look elsewhere. Listening to music, it just doesn’t have the low-end punch I desire. It’s an affordable headset, and it’s about on par with its price really.

Not all is lost though, it doesn’t sound bad at all. It’s very clear, and it has a good volume range to it. Surprisingly, the microphone isn’t too shabby either and it’s very happy on Discord. It was a warmer sound to it with plenty of boost on the mid and bright and clear treble. For voice chat and bringing out the details in FPS games, it’s spot on. I mean, if you play anything other than battle royale or FPS, it might not sit right with you, but that’s your call.

It does have a handy little controller too. It only has volume and a microphone mute, but you’ll get no complaints from me for the added functionality here.

Overall

The setup does look pretty spot on though. As a set, I think they match up really well. It’s a shame the keyboard doesn’t have the same full RGB tech, but honestly, that’s not a deal-breaker for me. As I said before, I’m happy to set it to red and leave it there, otherwise its a bit of a distraction.

A competent and nice feeling keyboard, a mouse that’s more than capable of keeping pace in a modern FPS, and a headset that works well for FPS and team chat. It’s not the most refined setup, but for the price, it’s getting the job done nicely.
