It seems this year is becoming a big deal for gaming microphones, with the likes of Elgato, Razer, NZXT and more throwing something new into the market, and so far, they’ve all been pretty great. However, the Roccat Torch launched earlier this year too, and I’d heard good things and decided I had to track one down and see what all the fuss was about. What does excite me though are the features, as it does a few things some rival products do not, and that could give it a real advantage in this price range.
It’s a very well equipped microphone, offering a dual condenser capsule design, allowing for three pick-up patterns, which includes their own “whisper mode” which does sound interesting, but I’ll have to try it and see. There’s also a contactless mute feature, allowing you to wave your hand over the microphone to mute it. This sounds like a great idea, as it can remove the “click” you get when hitting mute. There’s built-in mixer controls, RGB lighting, and more, making this sound like one of the best-equipped gaming microphones on the market. However, it also has 24-bit recording, something that’s a bit of a rarity in this price range.
“Meet the ROCCAT® Torch™ Studio-Grade USB Microphone. The dual condenser design and 24-Bit audio quality will take your content to the next level. Cardioid, Stereo and exclusive Whisper pick-up patterns give you the tools to create anywhere. Contactless Quick Mute grants instant control. Boom arm compatibility means the Torch evolves with you.” – Roccat
