Opening the Edge HD2 up reveals the general layout and components used to power the PC. The board used is made by Pegatron and is moulded to the shape and size of the unit and is nicely spaced out for the connected components.
The ATOM/ION combination is housed beneath the SUNON MagLev branded low profile exhaust cooler with added heatpipe which once removed reveals the chips themselves.
The ATOM CPU is a D525 1.8GHz dual core processor which compared to the original Edge only having a D510 1.6GHz processor is quite a leap forward.
Memory wise, the system includes a single 2GB DDR3 module with “goldkey” branded chips upon it.
Sapphire have included a Samsung branded 320GB hard drive which for its purpose is fantastic and includes a SATA interface whilst operating at 5400rpm which obviously assists in keeping noise to a minimum.
Turning the unit back over now that some of the casing has been removed reveals the AzureWare 802.11 b/g/n USB module which enables this unit to have wireless internet access without the need for an external antenna.
