Shuttle SH370R8 Barebones PC Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Shuttle SH370R8 barebones PC with built-in CPU cooler, motherboard and power supply is available now. It’s on Amazon for just £354, and Amazon US for just $493.99. Of course, we put a flagship i9-9900 CPU and GTX 1080 Ti in ours, but the choices there are really yours. You could use a modest i5, paired with any GPU you desire. Heck, with an iGPU, you could use the PCIe panes for networking and storage devices; perfect for diverse deployments of multiple systems.

Overview

The Shuttle range is one that has always impressed me, offerings a barebones solution for every budget and every form factor. We’ve reviewed some pretty similar solutions to the one we tested today over the years. Take the XPC SZ170R8, which even looks very similar to the new H370 model. Then we have the LED lit gamer focused SZ270R9, we loved that one! Or the compact HTPC style XH110V, and the absolutely tiny Nano NC03U3! There really is something for everyone. From the home user, to the office, to digital signage, these are very versatile solutions.

What You Make It

Sure, we installed an i9-9900K and a GTX 1080 Ti in our system. That made it a real powerhouse when it comes to work and gaming. From rendering 4K video to playing games at high frame rates, it’s a real beast. However, you could install a Quadro card for professional environments. Or you could install a humble i3, and a GTX 1650 for a cheap and easily setup workstation build for the office.

Connectivity

The Shuttle system comes well equipped, and a custom motherboard that has great expansion options. There are two PCIe lanes, offering options for dual-slot GPUs. However, if you use PCIe storage, networking, or other expansion cards, you’ll have no issues here. Plus, if you’re more focused on the iGPU side, there are three display connections on the motherboard; perfect for triple display setups in the office. You can even choose optional hardware, such as the WLN-M WLAN-KIT, H-RS232 Serial Port connection for industrial automation and scientific setups, or the PHD3 2.5″ drive trays.

Should I Buy One?

With a versatile H370 motherboard, fantastic 500W PSU with silver efficiency, aluminium chassis, and built-in cooling solution, the Shuttle SH370R8 offers superb value for money and ease of use. Sure, it’s targeted to the business and professional markets, but it’s certainly got merit for the home market too.
