SilverStone RM51 5U Rackmountable Server Case Review

Hardware Support

First up, we have the front panel, which offers up the usual power controls, a pair of USB 3.0 ports and a Type-C port, all finished in black. There’s a power LED and also two LAN indicator LEDs too, which is handy given the server-focused design.

There’s room for a large ATX PSU in this case and an even larger unit with the HDD cage removed.

However, if you’re not using this for HDDs, you can actually fit a second (SFX) PSU into the same mount!

The second PSU will be fed by a pass-through cut-out here.

And, of course, the cable is included in the box!

There’s no wasted space here though, and you’ll find SSD trays dotted all over the place. There’s one here.

Another below that.

Hey, another here on the side.

And its buddy next to it.

If that’s not enough storage, there’s a whole bar spanning the top of the case with support for all kinds of storage configurations. Overall configurations are 3.5″ x 2 (compatible with 2.5″ x 3) on the bar, plus 3.5″ x 2 (or an SFX PSU) in the cage, and 2.5″ x 4 dotted around the interior.

There are eight expansion slots in the case, with support for up to an SSI-EEB 12″ x 13″ motherboard, you can get pretty crazy with the number of add-in cards. The 5U width (or height depending on how you look at it) is freaking huge too, so ultra-wide and thick GPUs will not be a problem.

The rear fan mount, should you need it, supports 120mm or 140mm fans or coolers. The case itself will house a 181mm tall CPU cooler or 192mm with the top bar in place. That’s a lot, like… even the biggest Noctua coolers will fit with ease.

Want to go with liquid cooling? You can add this bracket to the front, allowing for up to a 360mm cooled to be mounted in the front.

Don’t want to use it in a rack mount? There are four feet to mount the case vertically on its side.

A rear fan cage can be mounted externally, allowing for 2 x 80mm fans to be added to the back of the expansion slots to assist with airflow in the back of your server and keep your GPUs cool.

A set of rack handles are included too, they’re superbly robust and heavy just on their own too.

Nice!
