SilverStone RM51 5U Rackmountable Server Case Review

Silverstone is well-known for their high-end and high-performance case, cooler and PSU products. However, you may or may not know that much of their knowledge and experience comes from the server market. It’s rare we get a look at this sort of stuff here at eTeknix, but it’s certainly a pleasure to see a high-end SilverStone 5U Rackmountable server-grade case in the office this week. While it’s technically very similar to most PC cases, the ability to mount it horizontally or vertically on feet, or actually fit it into a proper server rack mount, makes it extremely versatile for the enthusiast PC users and business users out there.

SilverStone RM51

It’s a bit of a beast, capable of holding anything from mini-ITX up to the massive SSI-EEB motherboards, so you could easily have a dual CPU beast in this case. There are two of their truly mighty Air Penetrator fans, which are some of the most powerful fans on the market. There’s support for up to a 360mm radiator, robust expansion card support, and a comprehensive amount of room for storage, power supplies (yes, it can take two), and more.

Features

  • Supports up to SSI-EEB motherboards
  • Includes 2 x Air Penetrator 184i PRO fans for superior air intake
  • Supports 360mm liquid cooling radiator
  • 8 PCI expansion slots
  • Reserved sliding rail mounting holes for quick rail installation
  • Includes one USB Type-C interface
  • Upright or horizontal placement flexibility
  • Secondary PSU can be installed if 3.5″ drive cage is to be left unoccupied
