X399 Aorus Xtreme Threadripper Motherboard Review

Synthetic Benchmarks

So, this motherboard was actually tested with the new Threadripper 2970WX 24-core CPU, so in some tests, it’s going to be behind the more powerful 2990WX 32-core CPU we used for the MSI MEG X399 Creation. That being said, the lower core count (hardly a small core count though) does mean higher core speeds, so the 2970WX does have some advantages in these benchmarks, as does the Xtreme X399 motherboard. It’s obviously not that great in 3DMark, Unigine, or even PCMark 10. However, this much is true of all Threadripper setups, where those tests benefit more from quad-core to octa-core setups with much higher clock speeds (per core). It’s still competitive though, so I’m very happy with what we have.

It’s when we move to number crunching tasks like WPrime, where it clocked our second fastest score to date, just 40.578 seconds! Then our second highest CineBench score to date, a whopping 4452 points! Then our highest FPS in Handbrake ever too. Again, the X399 MEG had more cores, so I’m impressed the X399 Xtreme put up such a strong fight, even with a less Xtreme CPU. However, this isn’t a CPU review, it’s a motherboard review, and it’s clear the latest from Aorus is hitting the mark here.
