A Closer Look

Those who’ve used Turtle Beach headset before will certainly feel right at home here, with the headset using the well tried and tested Turtle Beach design. It may look pretty much the same as older headsets, but that’s not a bad thing, and the build quality feel rock solid throughout, and the headset looks neat and tidy, with only a little bit of green trim on the ear cups.

The ear cups are nice and large, designed to sit around the ear for a comfortable fit. There’s a glossy back on the rear of the ear cups, with a small green LED Turtle Beach logo on each. These logos are actually buttons too, which can be used to power the headset on/off.

There’s a durable extension slider on each side, ensuring a comfortable fit and it has enough range to suit younger gamers as well as adults.

Having all of the controls right on the headset is obviously great for a wireless headset, and they’re all nicely spaced and easy to find without taking the headset off your head, so you won’t be fumbling about mid-game.

The headset is nice and durable and has a strong headband, there is some flex to it, but it’s designed to stay firmly in place over your ears. Fortunately, there’s plenty of padding on the ear cups, so it’s certainly not uncomfortable for long gaming sessions, but it’s unlikely to fall off your head if you’re jumping around between matches.

There’s a good amount of padding on the headband too, and the leather finish gives it a little grip so that it doesn’t slide around, and helps balance the weight of the headset so it doesn’t become uncomfortable.

The 50mm drivers pack quite a punch, although that’s something I’ve come to expect from Turtle Beach, as all their mid-budget and above headsets have been solid performers. There’s plenty of low-end bass there for those who love their explosions, but with Superhuman Hearing and EQ profiles at the touch of a button, you can quickly dial down the “wow” factor for something better suited to movies, music, or competitive gaming with ease. The padding on the drivers is a little hard-wearing, but it’s meant to be and will wear in after a few days usage to provide a more comfortable fit, but it’ll also last a lot longer with minimal deterioration. The soft leather finish is breathable but creates quite a tight seal around your ears, which helps lock in the sound, block ambient noise and help create a better bass response too.

The headsets wireless tech is faultless and paired with its USB dongle instantly when powered on for the first time. The range is impressive too, as I was able to walk throughout my whole house and into the garden without a single loss of signal. Not that this is beneficial to gaming, but if you’re in a team chat or Skype call, and want to be a little more mobile, it’s a welcome bonus. The 50mm drivers do pack an impressive punch though, and it’s unlikely you’ll need to max out the volume anytime soon, plus the benefit of seperate volume controls for voice and general audio, you’re sure to get the best mix that suits your needs too.

The detachable microphone is a nice touch too, as I rarely use mine for gaming these days, but when it comes to playing some Halo or Battlefield, it helps to be in touch with your teammates, or to inform the enemy team of my appreciation of their skills, or something to that effect.
