2024 Power Supply Buying Guide

Thermaltake Toughpower GF3 1000W

When it comes to big power for a very reasonable price, it’s hard to top what Thermaltake has to offer on their latest Toughpower GF3 platform, which come with a powerful 1200W design, 80 Plus Gold Efficiency, all the latest standards such as ATX 3.0, PCIe 5.0 and 12VHPWR, and yet it does all of this for a very reasonable price that matches what most brands are charging for their 1000W units, making this a prime choice for those who need big power without breaking the bank.

Features

  • PCI-e gen 5.0 ready
  • Fully compatible with intel ATX 3.0 specifications
  • Ultra-quiet smart zero fan
  • Fully modular low-profile flat cable
  • Single +12v rail & high-class technologies

However, it has a few other advantages too, such as being available as the stunning Snow Edition, which comes in this gorgeous white finish. Of course, this Snow Edition is the same shade of white found on a plethora of other Thermaltake Snow Edition products, such as their cases and coolers, so you can easily match up multiple white products from Thermaltake for a lighter looking build.

It’s also a bit larger than most PSUs in this class, as you can see in the image below, it’s not the PCB that’s bigger but the casing has actually been extended a little. While this can be a downside if you’re tight on space in your case, it has allowed Thermaltake to equip it with a larger fan!

It comes with one of the Thermaltake TT-1425 140mm fans for improved cooling and quieter performance overall, and that’s something I can certainly get on board with.

1200W is a lot of power, but Thermaltake overbuilt the heck out of this thing, and fitted it with one of the fattest and highest rated bulk capacitors I’ve ever seen in a power supply, clocking in at 420v and 1150 uF this should make light work of 1200W loads.

The end result speaks for its self, as from my own testing, it peaked at a staggering 1700W, which is significantly over the rated 1200W, boosting to 40% over the rated specifications, and most certainly it won’t have any issues with dealing with massive power spikes from your system!
