Antec High Current Pro 1200W Modular Power Supply Review

This unit has the most professional appearance out of any others I have reviewed so far. The unit has a dark blue colour that makes it look slightly different from other units on the markets and gives it a real quality looking finish. You’ll also notice that the unit is pretty small for a 1200W unit at only 180mm long as well as it’s reasonably strange layout- there’s a very good reason for this as you will see when we open this baby up!

On the top of the unit we can see that Antec has taken a minimalist approach which provides a fantastic view from windowed cases. The top simply features the fantastic dark blue satin paint and the gold Antec logo as a golden touch.

The side of the unit features a well-designed sticker that looks great.

The bottom of the unit includes all the required information for installation such as the power table which will be tucked away out of sight after being installed.

This is where you are going to start seeing things getting different- the rear includes the usual power socket and switch and… a fan? Surely not? I thought they did away with rear fans years ago due to the benefits of larger, quieter fans! In fact, there is a very good reason for the positioning of the fan which you will see later. The fan is a Sanyo Denki 80mm unit which is quite quiet for it’s size, but is inherently louder than larger fans and is only time I have been able to hear the PSU fan with the load tester on without putting my ear to the unit. According to Antec, this thing reaches about 37dB at 100% load which is about right, but if you are an enthusiast, you should be used to a bit of noise by now!

The front of the unit features a lot of ventilation, this is how the air is pulled from the inside of the case and exhausted at the back, I have always considered this a more efficient way of cooling as it pulls air over all of the interior which tends to be more effective than just blowing it generally inside with a large top fan. You can also see a reasonably small selection of modular connectors.
