Facebook Begins Tentative 4K Video Support Roll-out

Better late than never!

Ultra high-definition video, or 4K, is surely set to become the market standard. While many of us are still happily using standard HD resolutions, many have already taken the leap to 4K technology. There are clearly, no pun intended, reasons why.

With YouTube and other video hosting sites embracing the enhanced video technology, Facebook has been unusually slow. Given how the platform has evolved over the last 5 years, video content is now a major factor on the social media site.

Admittedly, in recent months Facebook has had other problems to deal with. Such as answering to the US Senate or the announcement of more staff hirings to combat the latest criticism or scandal.

In an announcement via NextPowerUp, it does appear that Facebook is finally embracing 4K support. It is better late than never.

Facebook will never look so glorious!

Many people, including ourselves here at eTeknix, enjoy using Facebook as a means of spreading our video content. The growth of 4K recording devices and the capability of home computers, however, has left the social media site trailing against its competitors.

As we started this article with, we agree that while 4K is clearly the future, it is not yet quite with us as a standard. When you start seeing 4k Dungeons & Dragons tables being made though, you know which way the wind is blowing. We have even seen the popular Wii-U emulator CEMU bring Zelda BOTW to our PC’s in 4K resolutions.

At present, only a few selected accounts have access to 4K uploading as Facebook clearly want to test the water in regards to bandwidth usage. We should, however, expect to see 4K on Facebook formalized in the very near future.

Have you made the switch to 4k (or higher)? What screen set-up do you currently have? – Let us know in the comments!
