GeIL Orion RGB 16GB 4400MHz DDR4 Memory Review

How Much Does It Cost?

Stock is pretty variable at the moment, and so are the prices, so rather than give you something too specific, you can check the current stock and prices on Amazon here. Keep in mind, this is the flagship kit at 4400 MHz, so it’ll be on the expensive side, but you do get what you pay for. Of course, it’s more likely that the lower speeds kits will be more readily available, and still deliver broadly similar performance in most cases.

Overview

While this last couple of years seem to be nothing but stock issues, at least some variants of this kit are available. The higher speed kits like this were always in limited supply anyway, with most sets targeting mid 3000 MHz speeds, and only the best-of-the-best binned kits breaking 4000 MHz. If you really need this speed, then you’ll have to be a little more patient to find it. Otherwise, I think the more readily available 3200 and 3600 MHz kits will be the best ones to buy. You’ll still get great performance, but you’ll save time and money too.

Design

GeIL is top of their game with the ORION RGB. I really liked the non-RGB version I reviewed last year; it was magnificent looking RAM. However, I like the RGB model even better. That is to say that I both like the look of it when the RGB is turned off, but I also think the RGB is some of the best I’ve seen on RAM. I hope that wasn’t too confusing. The heat spreader design looks great, the colours are stunning, and the lights are vibrant; I can’t really complain about that!

Performance

It’s one of the fastest kits we’ve ever tested, so it’s hardly surprising that it delivered some of the best results we’ve ever had too. It really is a numbers game, and it delivered flawless performance. What did surprise me is that it posted at full XMP on the first try. Often high-end kits take a bit of fettling of the settings to get them to post. Plus, I even managed a simple overclock to gain another 200 MHz. Hardly a HUGE difference, but it was still a free upgrade when it comes to maximising your performance.

Should I Buy Them?

It’s out of stock right now, so if you don’t want to buy it, I hope you can. However, it’s a very impressive set of memory, delivering excellent performance, robust build quality and stunning aesthetics. However, I bet some of the slower and more affordable variants are pretty fantastic too, and a little cheaper (and more in stock!).
