Nvidia is set to discontinue (thanks VideoCardz) the production of its popular GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, according to recent reports. The company has informed partners like Colorful and Palit that they can place their final orders for this specific graphics card series.
The GeForce RTX 3060, introduced in February 2021, has become one of the most used GPUs among gamers. It holds a significant 5.9% share in the Steam Hardware Survey. Its popularity is attributed to its 12 GB of VRAM, which provides excellent performance at 1080p resolution, and its affordable MSRP of $330. This made it a solid choice for mid-range gaming enthusiasts.
Despite its success, Nvidia has decided to halt the production of the RTX 3060. The company has already started notifying its partners about the final batch of orders. This process will take several months to complete, as graphics cards are shipped in batches. Nvidia will continue to send orders to partners, who will then distribute the cards to retailers.
The decision to discontinue the RTX 3060 comes as Nvidia shifts its focus to newer models like the GeForce RTX 4060. However, the RTX 4060 comes with only 8 GB of memory, which may not appeal to all gamers.
