Elgato “Prompter” Teleprompter Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The Elgato Prompter is available now with an MSRP of £299.99, and it’s also on Amazon for a very reasonable £279.99. That may sound like a big investment, and it sort of is, but this is honestly very good value for money. A teleprompter on Amazon can be around £150, doesn’t come with a display, and tend to look a bit rubbish to be honest, while the Prompter from Elgato just looks and feels like a complete product, which it is!

The Elgato Prompter is also available with as a bundle with some additional hardware:

  • Elgato Prompter Pole Mount Set – Premium Teleprompter + Extendable Desk Clamp – £319.98
  • Elgato Prompter Swivel Mount Bundle – Premium Teleprompter + Low Profile Arm – £368.98
  • Elgato Prompter Camera Set – Premium Teleprompter with Full HD Webcam – £424.97

Overview

There are some products that come along that are modest improvements on what’s already on the market, be that a bit cheaper, faster, lighter, or whatever really. However, the Elgato Prompter is absolutely leagues ahead of anything else on the market right now. Sure, there are professional solutions, which cost around £2000-3000, and I’m sure they’re great, as they’re used in TV productions. However, at 10% of the cost, it only goes to make the Elgato solution look like absolutely insane value for money.

The cheaper units may be half the price of the Elgato, but they still need a screen, they’ll need an app, they’ll have less compatibility, less accessories, and really, it’s just not even close to a contest anymore. The Elgato Prompter is just that good. If you need a teleprompter, there’s nothing better unless you’re willing to spend literally ten times as much.

I love how usable it is though, the screen is bright and clear, and while the resolution isn’t that high, it just doesn’t feel like it needed to be higher. you can sit a good distance away and easily read the display, and the fact that I can mount my phone, a webcam, a DSLR or just about any other major photography gear to it makes it extremely versatile for all different kinds of uses and users alike.

Should I Buy One?

Elgato has become the go-to brand for gamers, streamers and content creators, and their range of products are seen on the sets of just about anyone I can think of these days. The StreamDeck controllers, lighting, web cams, microphone, green screens, mounts and now the Prompter, I see no real competition doing anything better, or even close to it, and their software and ecosystem just keeps on getting better. The Promter is simply fantastic.
